Phil Spencer announced that Xbox players can look forward to receiving exclusive Japanese triple-A in the future
During an interview with Game Watch, Phil Spencer was asked whether Xbox would receive "exclusive Japanese AAA games like Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon," instead of just having Japanese game versions that are also available on PlayStation or Switch.
In response to the question of whether it was challenging to meet these expectations for Xbox, Spencer replied, "Not at all, I believe you can count on it."
He continued, "In fact, in January 2023, we released Hi-Fi Rush. While it may not have been a large-scale project like Blue Dragon, it was a high-quality game. We also have Japanese developers who are part of Microsoft Game Studios, and although there are projects we can't announce yet, we are currently developing new games in collaboration with Japanese companies. With our continued growth, including first and third-party games, I'm confident you can expect even more Japanese titles in the future."
Spencer's response reaffirms statements made by Xbox Corporate Vice President Sarah Bond, who was also asked a similar question during a direct IGN Japan broadcast last year.
"One of the things that excites me greatly is that we have over 250 developers in Japan currently working on games for Xbox," Bond said last year. "150 of them have already released their projects, with 100 of them available on Game Pass, and we announced 15 projects from Asia and 13 from Japan.
"Much has already been done, but even more will be done in the future, and I can't wait to share this information with you as they start to release."
Microsoft has been actively expanding its efforts in Japan with the release of the Xbox Series X and S. The consoles were launched simultaneously with other regions, and Phil Spencer has been committed from the start to better meeting the needs of Japanese gamers in this console generation.
