Deadlock Modder Brings Iconic Overwatch Map Ilios to Life, Exciting Fans
A creative Deadlock modder has brought the classic Overwatch map Ilios into the game, and players are already buzzing with excitement.
At first glance, Deadlock may remind players of Overwatch 2, with its diverse range of characters, each with unique abilities. However, the gameplay is far more complex and different from Blizzard’s hero shooter. Despite these differences, comparisons between the two games have been frequent. Now, one modder has bridged the gap by introducing a fan-favorite Overwatch map into Deadlock.
Reddit user Space_Bear87 showcased their impressive work by porting Ilios, the iconic control-point map, into Deadlock. While the graphics and lighting differ slightly, the map captures the essence of the Overwatch version, featuring the stunning Santorini-inspired architecture with white buildings and domed roofs. Key landmarks, such as mountains, boats, and a statue, are also visible, adding to the immersive details.
Like in Overwatch, the map remains symmetrical, with the control point placed at the center. However, given Deadlock's MOBA-inspired gameplay with multiple lanes, adapting Ilios for this style may seem challenging. The modder explained that they plan to adapt more Overwatch maps to fit Deadlock's unique playstyle.
In the Reddit thread, the modder clarified: “Deadlock characters can still buy, level up, etc., but they’ll have a new game mode to play on.”
The community responded with excitement, praising the mod’s potential. “I’m honestly more hyped for community-made stuff like this than the actual game,” one user commented. Another added, “Bepop hooks on Ilios are gonna be wild.”
Many players expressed their admiration for the mod’s quality. “This is so impressive and well done, these will be amazing to have,” one player noted.
Though Valve’s Deadlock is still in its alpha phase, it already boasts a growing player base and community. Fans are eager to see what new features the game will offer once it’s fully released, especially with the potential for creative mods like this one.
