Overwatch 2 Season 7: Sombra's Game-Changing Rework and Beyond
Blizzard has officially unveiled the upcoming Sombra rework for Overwatch 2, set to debut with the launch of Season 7 on October 10. While Blizzard had previously hinted at plans to rework Sombra, specific details had remained elusive.
This marks another significant transformation for Overwatch 2's enigmatic hacker, following past adjustments that saw Sombra's invisibility lose its timer, allowing her to remain concealed indefinitely. The forthcoming rework promises substantial changes that will undoubtedly impact how players approach Sombra.
When Season 7 of Overwatch 2 goes live in October, players can anticipate the removal of Sombra's Opportunist passive ability. In its place, the new Stealth ability will be introduced as a passive feature, automatically activating when Sombra is not taking damage, dealing damage, or using her abilities. Additionally, the update will make Sombra's Translocator instantly teleport her to its thrown location. Sombra will also gain a new ability named Virus, inflicting damage over time. This damage can be amplified and accelerated when used on a hacked enemy. Further refinements are expected for Sombra's Machine Pistol, Hack, and EMP, although precise details remain undisclosed as of now.
The Overwatch 2 Season 7 update will also introduce balance changes for other heroes. Mei will lose her Deep Chill passive, and Zarya's Projectile Barrier will no longer build Ult charge as swiftly, though it will enjoy a shorter cooldown. Additional hero adjustments are slated for Orisa, Ramattra, Wrecking Ball, Cassidy, Torbjorn, Brigitte, and Illari. Furthermore, the long-awaited Roadhog rework is on the horizon, although it won't be available until later in the season.
Beyond hero adjustments, Overwatch 2 Season 7 will revamp the Route 66 Escort map, providing better protection for attackers as they exit spawn and progress through the initial checkpoint.
In addition to these changes, Season 7 will feature a crossover event with Diablo 4, including a limited-time mode and the introduction of the Lilith Moira skin. The season will also mark the debut of the Samoa Control Map, the return of the Halloween Terror map, and the introduction of a new Battle Pass. With all these exciting updates, Overwatch 2 Season 7 promises to keep fans engaged as they eagerly await BlizzCon on November 3, where details about the new Tank hero set to debut in Season 8 will be revealed.
