"Killer Instinct" is gearing up for the release of a new Anniversary Edition and a free-to-play version of the game

During a special live broadcast commemorating the Xbox One game's tenth anniversary, the Iron Galaxy development team announced their plans to release two versions of the game.

The core version of Killer Instinct will become free-to-play for console and PC users. It will feature one free rotating fighter every week, along with single-player, local, and ranked matches.

Additionally, the Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition will be available for $30, comprising all 29 fighters and extra content.

The existing Killer Instinct Definitive Edition will be removed from digital stores and replaced by the Anniversary Edition. All purchased copies of the Definitive Edition will be upgraded to the Anniversary Edition for free.

The Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition will not include the Definitive Edition app containing developer interviews, conceptual artwork, and standalone versions of Killer Instinct 1 and 2. Nevertheless, Definitive Edition owners will still have access to this content.

"We are also discontinuing the sale of individual fighters and various editions. Remember: anything you've previously purchased will remain in your library, and you will still have access to it," stated the Iron Galaxy team in their blog, explaining these changes.
