The underperformance of the G2 team at the recent CS:GO Major has generated curiosity and prompted inquiries among the community

G2 arrived at the BLAST Paris Major as one of the top teams in the world. However, instead of success, they were eliminated from the tournament before reaching the playoffs, suffering two losses to teams outside the top 10.

The form displayed by the European team during the Challengers stage, with three consecutive victories, only intensified the shock of their premature elimination. Moreover, bookmakers considered them as one of the favorites.

So, what went wrong for G2 in the Legends stage?

Reasons for their failureThere are several notable reasons:

Firstly, there was a significant drop in G2's win percentage on the "terrorist" side during the Legends stage, falling from 83% to 56%. Why did this become a problem?

During the Legends stage, only strong teams remained, and they also favored playing as "terrorists" in their matches. G2 struggled to perform effectively as "counter-terrorists," failing to secure rounds and losing crucial moments to their opponents.

Secondly, there was an excessive reliance on individual skills. The players heavily depended on their personal abilities. During the Challengers stage, these skills were sufficient. However, when G2 encountered stronger opponents, they were more frequently punished for risky actions, exposing their lack of team coordination.

Thirdly, overall coordination was a key issue. This problem closely ties with the second reason. The fact that the "samurais" often relied on individual actions indicated a problem with their overall philosophy. They struggled to coordinate maneuvers effectively, even in situations where players held advantageous positions.

What's next?

This doesn't mean that G2 is a bad team by any means. They still achieved good individual performances. However, those performances were not enough to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Although they faced disappointment in Paris, there is no reason to believe that they won't be able to bounce back and win another significant event before the end of the year. The team possesses potential and talent. Perhaps this setback will serve as motivation for them to analyze their mistakes and improve their teamwork.

The community's interest and questions surrounding G2's failure at the Major remain. Now, the team will face the challenge of rebuilding their reputation and proving their competitiveness in future tournaments.
